Praying for those who Protect

It was at Matt Williams and K9 Diogi’s funeral when standing in the lobby of Victory Church Lakeland, FL that God asked me a very profound question.  “Did anyone pray for Matt Williams the day he was killed?”  Then the second question came, “Did anyone pray for any of the 5000 officers from all over the United States who were attending the funeral?”

I could not get those questions out of my mind.  Is anyone praying for your officers on a daily bases yet they are willing at any moment to risk their lives for us. Can I take a moment to pray for their protection? I went to our leaders at the Lakeland Police Department and weeks later the opportunity was given to us to join in their briefings and pray for those officers before they went on patrol. At first, it was awkward but now chaplaincy is a welcomed part of LPD.
