Marriages for Emergency Responders

The state of the marriage unions for Emergency Responders is under fire. As in our nation there seems to be an attack upon marriages, but it’s more intense when it comes to those that are Emergency Responders such as law enforcement and or firefighters. They live in a much more intense world than the average person therefore when they get home they forget how to react in a less intense environment, to be a romantic husband or wife, a great father or mother and deal with things with a better understanding when things are not perfect.

The institution of marriage was originally created by our Creator as a marvelous and wonderful gift to mankind. The divine plan was originally revealed to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Genesis 2:24 states, “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they shall be one flesh”. This is when God instituted the family and marriage. Ever since that very moment the devil has done everything he can to destroy mankind. The devil does not want to see mankind have a relationship with God; the devil does not want mankind to have a wholesome relationship with each other as husband and wife, and the devil definitely doesn’t want us to have a healthy relationship with our family or our children. For the past 5000 years we’ve seen every civilization that has done away with the family as God instituted crumble. Skeptics call Christians narrow-minded because they stand on what God said to ‘leave and cleave’. The family unit has become the bedrock of cultures in Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, South America, Australia, and even in Antarctic.

When God instituted marriage it was because he knew we needed companionship, intimacy, and spiritual bonding. Throughout history when people as a nation have done away with God’s plan we see some of the horrible effects it has had on them, for example the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, ancient Greece, and the Roman Empire. None of these civilizations have survived. In the last few years, we have seen in countries like Belgium, the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, and Sweden, whose leaders have not supported God’s plan for marriage and the family. The consequences for traditional families have been devastating.

The institution of marriage represents the very foundation of human social order. My concern is not only for what happens to our nation but what happens to the family for each one of our emergency responders. We must pray for them. Their families are under fire emotionally, spiritually and physically. This explains why there is increased drug abuse, alcoholism, and crime that is attacking their lives. In short, when marriage and the family unit functions as intended, it’s good for everyone, men, women, children, the community, the nation, and the world. Marriage is the means by which the human race is propagated, and the means by which cultural and spiritual teaching is passed down through the generations (the Sages).

According to Dr. James Dobson with Focus on the Family, research consistently shows that happy married adults do better in virtually every major area of emotional and physical health than people who are divorced or never married. They live longer and they live happier lives. It shows that they recover from illness more quickly; they earn and save more money, and are more reliable employees, suffer less stress, and are less likely to become victims of any kind of violence. They find the job of parenting more enjoyable, and they have more satisfying and fulfilling sex lives. Not only are there these benefits but also many other benefits of marriage that serve to validate the wisdom of our Creator, who told us in the book of Genesis, “it is not good for man to be along”.

Be aware that the Bible warns against harmful forms of sexual behavior, including premarital sex, adultery, prostitution, incest, bestiality, and pedophilia. It’s not my desire to point a finger or criticize but to encourage us to keep family and marriage the way God originally intended and instituted. I do not agree with judging one another but to live a life offering grace, mercy, help and God’s intended way.
